The Siccas Luthiers Halo Traditional – Our New Spanish-Rooted Model

← All Luthiers

Some models arrive because a workshop wants to try something. This one arrived because players kept asking for it. The Siccas Luthiers Halo Traditional is our answer to a request we heard again and again: a traditionally built guitar in our own line, without the modern construction that defines most of our other models.

Where the Halo Sits in Our Line

Each Siccas Luthiers model answers a different question. The Origin Lattice brings lattice construction within reach of players at the start of their path. The Continuum Lattice takes that design into concert territory. The Legacy Doubletop follows the modern German double top ideal. The Halo Traditional goes the other way: it takes the Spanish guitar as its musical reference and builds from there.

What "Traditional" Means Here

A traditionally built guitar carries a fan of struts under the soundboard rather than a lattice grid or a sandwiched double top. The usual consequences are a warmer, rounder voice, a slower and more gradual response, and a sound that rewards nuance more than power. It is the construction behind most of the instruments the repertoire was written for — which is why it remains the first choice for players whose programmes live in the nineteenth century. Our guide to fan-braced, double-top and lattice guitars sets out the differences in detail.

Woods and Specification

The Halo Traditional is offered with a spruce or a cedar top, in each case over Indian rosewood back and sides, with a 650 mm scale, a 52 mm nut and Der Jung tuners. At around 1,500 grams it stays light in the hands. Spruce tends toward clarity and a brilliant treble, cedar toward warmth and immediacy — our comparison of spruce versus cedar walks through what actually changes. A 63 cm version is available for players who want the shorter scale.

How It Is Made and Finished

Siccas Luthiers is our own guitar line, founded by the brothers Mirco and Manuel Sicca and developed in-house with a team of experienced luthiers and players. Each Siccas Luthiers guitar undergoes a careful setup and final inspection in our workshop in Karlsruhe before being shipped to our customers. Our article on Siccas Luthiers guitars describes the background of the line.

Hear It in Concert Repertoire

A specification sheet tells you very little. You can hear the Halo under real repertoire in our article on Donia Foglia playing Sor's Fantaisie Op. 30 — thirteen minutes of classical writing that leaves an instrument nowhere to hide.

The Library
  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
