Overview

About the luthier

Kazuo Sato is an internationally renowned luthier whose career spans decades of dedication and refinement. His journey began in Japan, where he apprenticed under Kuniharu Nobe from 1965 to 1971. Seeking to expand his expertise, he moved to England and worked in the prestigious workshop of David Rubio, collaborating with another celebrated luthier, Paul Fischer. In 1974, Kazuo Sato established his own workshop in Germany, where he continues to build exceptional guitars. Today, he works alongside his son, Hideo Sato, ensuring the continuation of his craft and expertise for future generations.

About the guitar

This 1981 Kazuo Sato guitar is an extraordinary instrument, featuring a spruce top paired with exquisite Brazilian rosewood back and sides. The choice of this precious tonewood enhances not only the visual elegance of the guitar but also its tonal qualities, contributing to a deep, resonant voice with exceptional sustain and warmth.

Its sound is mature and refined, offering a rich tonal palette with remarkable depth and clarity. The balance across all registers is impressive, ensuring both powerful basses and clear, singing trebles. Additionally, the guitar provides outstanding playing comfort, making it an effortless joy to play. Its exceptional state of preservation, along with its tonal maturation under optimal playing conditions, makes this a superb second-hand instrument—an excellent choice for discerning guitarists seeking both quality and history in their instrument. The condition of the instrument is very good, with normal signs of wear for its age and a professionally repaired crack on the back, which is considered stable.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
