About the luthier
Raffaele Dantone, born in 1993 in Bolzano, lives and works in the scenic Fassa Valley in the heart of the Dolomites. Surrounded by vast forests, his passion for woodworking began at a young age. After working for several years as a wood carpenter, he discovered his calling in guitar making through a transformative workshop with renowned luthier Mirko Borghino. This experience led him to enroll at the Civica Scuola di Liuteria di Milano. After graduating, he refined his craftsmanship under the guidance of master luthier Daniele Marrabello, focusing on construction techniques, sound refinement, and attention to detail. Today, Raffaele Dantone builds guitars in his own workshop in the Dolomites, where his instruments reflect both tradition and innovation, coupled with exceptional woodworking artistry.
About the guitar
This 2025 No. 11 guitar is a wonderful example of Raffaele Dantone’s talent and dedication to his craft. Inspired by the traditional fan bracing of Antonio de Torres, he has taken the design further by incorporating thicker sides, enhancing structural stability and notably improving projection and tonal depth. The spruce top and Indian rosewood back and sides are beautifully crafted, showcasing Raffaele’s refined aesthetic sensibilities and precision. The result is an instrument with crystal-clear trebles that soar effortlessly, and deep, full-bodied basses with a main resonance around F#, providing excellent balance and richness across the registers.
A particularly charming detail is the hidden “secret” each of Raffaele’s latest guitars contains: the endblock is made from a special piece of spruce salvaged from old Tyrolean furniture, decorated with engraved traditional mountain flower motifs. This fine-aged spruce now forms part of a unique puzzle across his instruments, subtly connecting his creations with his cultural heritage.
This guitar not only demonstrates outstanding sound quality and excellent playability but also carries a personal touch and story, making it an exceptional instrument for both performers and collectors.
